Anyone who has visited the Hudson Valley in the winter knows how beautiful it is. Albeit the fall and its magnificent colors gets first billing, the winter should certainly not be ruled out for a Valley wedding. There are some logistic problems with winter weddings, but they can be solved with a bit of planning. The owners of reception venues in the Valley that are open for business in the winter months can serve as an excellent source of information and will be very willing to work with you to make your “white” wedding a beautiful and memorable one.
Beverly asks: “I’m planning a winter wedding. What kind of food would carry through my winter theme?”
Dear Beverly: Food for a winter wedding can be heartier and richer than in warm weather. You can carry through your theme with items such as mulled wine or cider, cheese fondue, hearty soups, warm breads, bread pudding, or hot fudge sundaes.

Denise asks: “What types of flowers would work with a winter-wedding theme?”
Dear Denise: You can choose to use one, or more kinds of flowers of the season. Some examples are poinsettias (white and/or red), roses (white and/or bold colored), and snowball mums. Evergreen sprigs, snow globes, wreathes, ice sculptures, candles and hurricane lamps can all be used instead of — or with — flowers in centerpieces. Additional decorations can include everything from large crystallized snowflakes to garlands and fake snow confetti.
