The Wedding Guru says: There are several reasons why a program can be a great addition to your wedding. Most of the time, guests will only know the family and friends of one “side,” so your program can help introduce the key players participating in the ceremony. It also explains the rituals involved in your ceremony for those guests who are unfamiliar with the type of ceremony you are conducting. The program can also be used as a “thank you” to your parents and attendants.
There are several ways to make sure your guests receive their programs. You can place a copy on every seat at the venue, hand them to guests as they file into the ceremony hall, designate someone to hand out the programs, or leave them at the entrance to wherever your ceremony is being held.
Whichever method you choose, you’ll need to delegate this responsibility to someone, such as your groomsmen/ushers or even some of the older children attending the wedding. You can also ask your wedding planner, maître d’, or emcee.
