Sometimes in an attempt to do the right thing, we overthink a situation. And sometimes the simplest solution is the right one.
A Hudson Valley bride asks: “We’re going over our guest list before ordering invitations; unfortunately, one of my cousins is quite ill and I’m sure that she won’t be able to attend. I don’t want it to look like I’m asking for a gift, so even though I know she can’t attend, do we send an invitation anyway?”

The Wedding Guru says: Absolutely send the invitation! There’s no doubt in my mind that your cousin will enjoy receiving the invite and learning about your upcoming joyous occasion. As far as “asking” for a gift, that’s not something you need to be concerned about. Leave that up to your cousin.
