Dear Wedding Guru: “My fiancé and I have decided to elope. We’ll have a private ceremony and then be off on our honeymoon. How do we let our friends and family know that we’ve eloped? We also want them to save the date for a celebration we’ll be hosting after we return from our honeymoon. (The place is already booked.) What’s the best way to do this?”

The Wedding Guru says: The most appropriate way to do this is to first send out an announcement of your marriage. Later, send a save-the-date letting your guests know where and when the reception will be held. (If budget is an issue, save on the price of a second mailing by combining the two in one.) I should add that you should absolutely not make any mention of gifts in your mailing(s).
