The Local

Rhinebeck

Located in the heart of Rhinebeck, The Local is a favorite restaurant for weekenders, celebrities, and, well, locals. This beautifully renovated 1850s farmhouse, features an open kitchen, on-site garden, al fresco dining area, and best of all, a cozy antique bar.

Most complicated drink you’ve ever made
When I was younger, layered shots were popular. You had to be careful about layering; that was complicated. More recently, there was a Passion Fruit Rum Sour on our menu that had grenadine foam. That was hard and took a lot of time.

Least favorite cocktail to make
A White Russian, because it’s hard to pair with foods that aren’t dessert. It’s also a little bit dated, in my opinion. And I won’t deny it: I could have just had one too many when I was younger.

Most interesting thing that’s happened while working
I once met k.d. lang when she came in one night. She sat at the bar and shared how much she loves the Hudson Valley and told me about diferent spirits she had tried all over the world. She was incredibly kind; it was easy to tell how she got to be where she is.
