The Booze Budget

The Wedding Guru Judy Lewis fields this week’s wedding questions. Today: The Booze Budget

Celia asks: “I’m holding my wedding at the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Hall, because I’m on a really tight budget. I want to serve liquor at an open bar — is there any way to save the cost of paying a professional bartender?”

Dear Celia: If you have liquor-savvy guests, you can ask a few of them to “man” the bar for specifically allotted time periods. Keep in mind that most people don’t know the fine art of mixing drinks. If you hire a pro, you stand a better chance of having the drinks taste as they should and, if you wish, you can have the bartender “regulate” how much alcohol goes into each drink. Though, if you go that route, that’s something you may not want to share with friends or family!
