Frites of NY
As the winner of our Best of Hudson Valley Readers’ Choice Award in 2017 for top food truck, Frites of NY is beloved by the community at large. The crazy fry bowls are like poutine plates, but, dare we say, even better. The Notorious P.I.G., with pulled pork, slaw, barbecue sauce, and fried onion rings, is a summertime staple. Also worth a mention is The Disco, a poutine-esque creation with fresh cheddar cheese curds, gravy, and green onion.
Lil Fry Company
Are you tired of the same old French fries? The ones that are sad, limp, and covered with grease? Get ready for an upgrade when you sample the goods at the Lil Fry Company food truck, which is based in Warwick. The gluten free, gourmet potato sticks are hand-cut and brined onsite, then seasoned in dangerously addictive flavors like chive and melted cheese and garlic and Parmesan. Good luck stopping at one serving.
Nosh Food Truck
If it sounds delicious, it’s probably at Nosh. The Kinderhook truck has an extensive selection of both vegan and meat sandwiches on its core menu, but that’s not all. Tacos, poutine, and even flourless chocolate cake appear on the roster of delectable delights. If you do opt for a sandwich, though, take a serious look at the vegan offerings, which include trendy BBQ jackfruit and foodie favorite grilled brie with fig jam.
Off The Hook
In the local food truck scene, Off The Hook distinguishes itself with classic New England fare that practically screams summer. The seafood heavy menu spotlights bites like shrimp puffs, clam chowder, fried calamari, and crab cake sandwiches. Track down the ocean blue vehicle with the help of the handy locator tool on the truck’s website.
Pippy’s Food Truck
Pippy’s is on a mission to revolutionize the way people think about hot dogs. To start, the dogs are all natural, locally sourced, and handmade with 100% beef. For non-meat eaters, veggie dogs are available, as are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menu options. Go bold with the Indian Dog, topped with curried potatoes and yogurt sauce, or experience junk food heaven with the Buckshot Billera, a bacon-wrapped dog topped with mustard, mac and cheese, gold fish, and chopped onions. The kicker? They’re both only $4.50.
Slidin’ Dirty
A favorite of Capital Region foodies, Slidin’ Dirty boasts a food truck and restaurants in Schenectady and Troy. As far as what to order, the mac and cheese is a must. Try the BBQ Pork Mac for a classic spin, go gourmet with the Prosciutto Arugula Mac, or get wild with the Dirty Burger Mac, topped with ground beef, pickled red onion relish, and the dirty secret slider sauce.
Spacey Tracy’s
Although pickles probably aren’t the first things to come to mind when you envision food truck fare, that doesn’t mean they’re not destined for greatness. At Spacey Tracy’s truck, visitors can sample the gourmet pickle products, which range from garlicky dill to sweet and spicy. Feeling adventurous? Sweet Central Express
Sweet Central Express is the grown-up version of the ice cream truck of your childhood. Directed by a Culinary Institute of America grad, the confectionary coach scoops up hand-churned frozen custard, Italian ice, and sorbet in flavors that range from traditional (cookie dough and vanilla chip) to indulgent (cotton candy and cake batter). The shaved snow, which comes in refreshing green tea, lemon, raspberry, and more, also deserves a mention.
Whipped Cupcakes
Anyone who thinks cupcakes have seen their heyday has obviously never been to Whipped. The retro blue trailer may be minuscule, but its tasty cakes pack major flavor. Go flavor crazy with the Chubby Hubby, a chocolate confection filled with salted caramel and topped with peanut buttercream and a chocolate covered pretzel, or the Funky Monkey, a moist banana cupcake packed with Nutella and topped with peanut buttercream and a banana chip. For true cupcake lovers, the Newburgh-based bakery also offers alcohol infused and deep fried cupcakes.
Wildfire Food Truck
The Hudson area truck makes a name for itself with smoky riffs on barbeque, flatbreads, tacos, and more. For a steal, you can score three tacos for only $10. Choose between smoked beef, pork, chicken, crispy fish, or tofu. Tack on an order of street corn on the side for a delectable lunch or dinner.
