Rained Out

The Wedding Guru Judy Lewis fields this week’s wedding questions. Today: Rained Out

Bertha asks: “My ceremony is called for an outdoor venue in a beautiful location, with great views. But I know that if it rains it’ll be a real washout, so I’ve found an alternative venue for the ceremony. How should I tell my guests that we are doing a rain alternative?”

Dear Bertha: I commend you for thinking about the comfort of your guests. After all, isn’t that what inviting people to your celebration is all about? You can include that alternate location right on your invitation. If you would prefer not to do that, you can include an extra card in your invitation and, if necessary, directions to that location and from it to your reception venue. Remember to also include a phone number where guests can call on the day of the event. Leave a voice message at that number that indicates where the ceremony will take place. Most voice message technology will allow you the change the information remotely, so you can keep it up to date as the hour grows closer.
