Awards season is here, and stylists are working tirelessly to ensure that their celebrity clientele look amazing on their big night. Although there were dozens of beautiful gowns on the red carpet, these are the seven looks that stood out to me the most.

Michelle Dockery stole my heart in her stunning Alexandre Vauthier gown. She nailed the dress length and fit, and the gold/green accessories were perfect. Wearing her hair in a bob was a smart move, too: it allowed her to show off her back and the high neckline of the dress.

I was totally blown away by Anne Hathaway’s minimalist Chanel gown! Sometimes, less is indeed more. Her makeup featured a rosy lip (a great trend to try out at home), and I’m glad that that her stylists chose to let the dress shine rather than weigh it down with too many accessories.

Amy Poehler’s Stella McCartney tux was a huge hit on the red carpet. The super-low V-neck was daring, but Amy rocked it effortlessly. Mixing menswear-inspired cuts with feminine details is an awesome styling idea to try for yourself. To top it all off, I’m in love with her twisted chignon.

Amanda Seyfried went really high fashion with her Givenchy gown. Even though it was a pale dress with pretty fabric, the intricate cut and her smokey eye shadow made the look fierce and powerful.

Glenn Close was drop-dead gorgeous in her Zac Posen gown. The dress seemed a bit tight, but totally age appropriate. The mermaid tail is such a beautiful detail, and the deep blue tone is refreshing after seeing so many bright hues on the red carpet.

Lucy Liu looked like a princess in her “fruity” Carolina Herrera gown. It put a smile on my face to see something so gorgeous on the red carpet. Everything about this look is lovely — the lack of accessories lets the dress shine, and her hair and makeup perfectly accentuate the look. Also, the gown has pockets. POCKETS. You win, Miss Liu.

Modern Family’s Ariel Winter was adorable in her short Valentino dress. I’m glad her stylists chose something age-appropriate rather than “sexy.” Her sparkly shoes and thick headband really add some charm to the outfit, too.
