Forget Taco Bell; tasty tacos are Mexicali Blue’s specialty. Their 10 types of tortilla-encased treats will transport you south of the border — or at least your taste buds will think you’ve taken a Mexican vacation. The catfish taco is so incredibly popular that there are three different varieties of it on the menu, all served on blue corn tortilla: the straight-up catfish taco is made with Cajun catfish, shredded cabbage, cilantro, lime, and herb sour cream ($4.75); the Cali, with cole slaw and cheese ($6.95); and the Mango Cajun, with mango salsa, pico de gallo, cabbage, cilantro, herb sour cream, jicama, lime juice, jalapeños, tomatoes, red onion ($6.50).
Not to be outdone are unique dishes like the tuna burrito: teriyaki and sesame marinated tuna, with vegetable rice and beans, cabbage, lime, guacamole, and wasabi aïoli ($12.50). The snug New Paltz eatery has been serving Southwestern/Mexican chow for nearly 10 years, and will open a second location in Wappingers this month. Ole!
