This time last year, Jennifer Berger never thought she would be the star of a beautiful engagement story. The house manager from Putnam Valley had been dating IT director Michael Weller of Mahopac for seven years, but he claimed he never wanted to get married. Berger had no idea that a routine trip to the mall with her sister-in-law would lead to the dream engagement she always hoped for.
Under the pretense of returning a wedding gift, Berger’s sister-in-law brought her to Tiffany & Co. in their local mall. She was then directed to a private room filled with champagne, strawberries, and roses dyed “Tiffany blue.” Weller suddenly appeared and bent down on one knee. When he asked if she would like to see the ring, Berger’s father emerged in a tuxedo, carrying a Tiffany’s box. As the rest of her family poured in to celebrate, Berger selected her favorite ring from five that Weller had picked out.

To top it all off, the couple and their families had lunch at a nearby castle where Weller revealed yet another surprise: He had booked a romantic trip to Disneyland to celebrate and they would depart that evening. “As I think back to my amazing and unforgettable day that my wonderful now-fiancé planned, it still brings tears to my eyes,” Berger says. “It was the most magical and memorable day of my life.”
The wedding will be held at The Shrine of Saint Anne in Waterbury, CT on December 7, 2013 with a Christmas-themed reception at Winvian in Morris, CT. Berger says there will be many surprises in store for their guests in celebration of the holiday season.
Even though Weller initially showed some hesitation about getting married, the couple is optimistic about the future. “Looking back, not expecting it made it so much more incredible,” Berger says. “Mike always wanted to marry me, he just wanted the time to be right. And that day was not only oh-so right, it was the definition of perfect.”
