Is the Coed Bachelor/Bachelorette Party the New Wedding Trend?

A couple wants to opt out of the bachelor and bachelorette parties, but their friends have other ideas

The creativity of today’s bridal couples is simply delightful. They continue to come up with really interesting ways to “reform” old traditions. This couple is just one example.

A Hudson Valley bride asks: “Neither my fiancé nor I want a bachelor or bachelorette party. However, my friends really want to do something for us. One of the things that my best friend suggested was a combination bachelor and bachelorette party. Do you think that’s okay? Should I agree?”

The Wedding Guru answers: You obviously have some lovely friends. I would hate to see you disappoint them by not allowing them to throw you some sort of party. Today, many couples are doing coed showers. Combining a bachelor and bachelorette party is absolutely acceptable, too. If you want to make sure that it’s “civilized” without strippers or heavy drinking, tell your friends that you’d prefer a small dinner party that doesn’t have to be an extravaganza, an afternoon picnic with fun-filled games, or brunch — whatever sounds good to you and to your friends.
