Canoe Hill
This chic bar in the center of Millbrook has an excellent cocktail selection, but the food is nothing to skip out on either. Their small plates feature several tantalizing options — soups notwithstanding. Past highlights include late summer flavors like chilled corn and lobster, oyster chowder, and full-on fall creations like corn chowder with fennel, white wine, cream, tarragon, and fennel pollen.

The Maker Café
This breakfast and lunch spot harkens back to the golden age of elegant hotel parlors, with stunning tile interiors and Victorian flourishes. While there are plenty of other offerings on the menu (including baked goods from sister café, Bartlett House), the soups here are unlike any others in the neighborhood. Chef Michael Poiarkoff’s rotating selection of seasonal soups like canary melon with crab, Thai basil, and Israeli mint; or parsnip and fresh turmeric with mint eradicate any notion that soup isn’t a satisfying meal.

Kingston, Red Hook, Woodstock
Voted Best Soup in our annual Best of Hudson Valley contest, Yum Yum Noodle Bar has some serious bragging rights when it comes to their warming bowls of Asian cuisine. The build-your-own format means the contents are customizable, whether you want a miso broth with house made seitan and udon noodles, or a standard bowl of ramen with pork and chicken broth and chicken.
