While the phrase “cheap Mexican food” might make some shudder at the memory of an ill-fated Cancun trip, this restaurant proves you can have an authentic Mexican dinner experience here in the Valley, at a pequeño price. Right off the bat, you’ll be served chips with fresh guacamole prepared table-side — so good you’ll want to lick the molcajete (the traditional mortar-and-pestle-style bowl). Then, you might find your table being serenaded by the house mariachi band while you choose from traditional dishes such as chimichangas — chicken or beef stuffed in a deep-fried flour tortilla with sour cream and guacamole ($10.95), or pollo con mole (chicken breast smothered in a Mexican mole sauce, $11.95). All main dishes come with a side of Mexican-style rice and beans. And of course, the tucked-away eatery (it’s in a strip mall) is a mecca for marvelous margaritas ($5) — try the Mango-rita or lime flavors for a truly tropical twist.
