Springtime always inspires me to look at my home with fresh eyes. I don’t focus as much on spring cleaning (I feel like I’m always cleaning…) but more on the little things I can do to make the rooms feel rejuvenated. This special Design Issue offers plenty of inspiration for me, and I hope it will for you, too. We spoke to talented Hudson Valley interior decorators to learn the secrets to making spaces special. Many of them shared their resources for furniture and art so you can shop like a pro. Check out their smart ideas in “Color Me Happy” (page 25) and “My Favorite Room” (page 30). Also not to be missed: our profile on Cape Lily Home. The owner, Sylvia Lukach, creates the most gorgeous floral wallpaper—no surprise considering she is also an expert floral designer. And wallpaper, in case you haven’t heard, is very much back in style.
Of course, this is also the season to get outside to explore and enjoy our gorgeous region. Take a hike (we have three to try from leisurely to challenging on page 15), visit a historic spot (Bannerman Island is a great one—learn about the castle’s fascinating history on page 56), or consider taking up birding, which has become a very popular pastime. In our feature “For The Birds” (page 46), you’ll learn about the 200-plus species native to the Valley, the best places to view them, recommended apps, gear, and much more.
Even if your idea of the perfect weekend adventure doesn’t include a trek through a state park or figuring out how to identify our numerous feathered friends, we highly recommend packing a picnic for your day outdoors. In “Roll Models” (page 73), we asked local chefs and restaurateurs to share their favorite sandwich spots and what they love to order. Since our pros are all supremely capable of creating their own great sandwiches, you know if they purchase one—it has to be outstanding.
We hope you enjoy this issue and the start of spring. See you next month!
