The Wedding Guru answers: First, remember that you’re attending a wedding, not going to the office. It’s important for you to dress up! Try wearing something trendy (as opposed to outdated). Keep in mind, however, that this isn’t the time to experiment with an outfit that pushes the envelope. If you’re really not sure what’s in style, treat yourself to a couple of fashion magazines.

Take a hint from the time of year, time of day, and the wedding’s location. An afternoon wedding calls for an entirely different style than a formal, evening affair. If it takes place outdoors, in cool-weather, or in the evening, make sure you have a cover-up that will keep you warm while flattering your outfit. This goes without saying, but the proper undergarments — comfortable ones — are a necessity! You might also want to come prepared with safety pins and a little sewing kit. (Even if you don’t need to use these items, chances are that you’ll find someone else you can rescue.)

Your goal is to be seen and not laughed at. Anything that is either too revealing — shows too much décolleté, is too short or too tight, for instance — is out of the question… but that doesn’t mean you should dress as your grandmother would if she were invited! Use common sense, make sure you’re comfortable, and don’t worry. You’ll look fine!
