Dear Hudson Valley bride: In the simplest possible terms, the order of priority for your guest list should be immediate family (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, and uncles) first. Next are your close friends and the people you’re in contact with on a regular basis. Then come acquaintances, such as the people with whom you work, extended family (e.g., cousins), followed by long distance friends and relatives. At the bottom of the list come the people with whom you do not have regular contact. You can further refine the list once you know how many guests your budget will allow.
My best piece of advice is to try really (really!) hard not to make what should be a pleasant experience into a rift between families. Good luck!
