Comfort Food

The Bus

True to its name, The Bus looks just like the yellow school bus of your childhood. Unlike that stuffy vehicle, however, The Bus serves far tastier fare than your standard cafeteria fixings. Look out for finger-licking wings, loaded hotdogs, and gooey grilled cheese. Cue the stomach rumbling.

Chatham Brewing

You might not expect to find a food truck at a brewery, but, hey, the Hudson Valley is full of surprises. In addition to pouring out award-winning ales and porters, the brewery serves craveable comfort food fare out of its custom food truck. Vegans will love the smoky vegetable chili, while meat eaters will drool over the Blue Burger, a towering sandwich made of Trowbridge beef burger, Gose pickles, caramelized onion-bacon jam, gorgonzola aioli, and a sweet and spicy remoulade. Now that’s how to have a party in your mouth.

Dogfellas

As its title would suggest, Dogfellas makes its reputation around overloaded hot dogs like the Reuben Dog and the Pulled Pork Dog. They’re not the only things on the menu, though. Grilled cheese aficionados will swoon in delight over the spinach and ricotta grilled cheese or the pulled pork and mac and cheese concoction. Indulgent? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely.

Gourmeli’s Taste

Based in Columbia County, Gourmeli’s Taste is a family-run truck that centers its menu on multicultural comfort food that appeals to every palate. Snack on Bavarian pretzel sticks with honey mustard or try one of the artisanal grilled cheese sandwiches on offer (chicken bacon ranch, anyone?). For dessert, don’t pass up on the truck’s signature sweets. The Reese’s PB Chip Cookie and the Pumpkin Spice Blonde Brownies will send you to sweet tooth heaven.

Gracie’s Luncheonette

As the traveling branch of Gracie’s brick and mortar location in Leeds, the food truck serves updates on American classics like chicken biscuits with honey butter and a fish sandwich made with beer battered pollock. If you happen to stop by the truck when the Donut Burger is on the menu, order it a.s.a.p. Yes, it really is a burger on a donut. In 2018, you can find the truck by the playground at Sloop Brewing Company’s tasting room in Elizaville.

The Hungry Traveler

If you live near the Capital Region, add a trip to The Hungry Traveler to your “eat local” bucket list. The streamlined menu is all about warm weather essentials. Grilling standbys like hamburgers and hot dogs take center stage along with chicken wraps, potato salad, and corn bread. In other words, it’s everything you need to have an impromptu picnic.

United Cheesesteaks of America

Who needs a trip to Philly when United Cheesesteaks is here to fill our sandwich cravings? Keep it simple with the original sammie or try a riff on the classic with the Mushroom Steak or the Pizza Steak. As for where to find the Americana rover, keep an eye out around Warwick or at the local food truck fetes.
