You may be surprised about how much wedding costs vary in different places in the country. Knowing the numbers may help you stay within your budget.
A local mother-of-the-bride asks…
“This question comes from a conversation that I had with my daughter and her future husband. They wanted to know if the price of a wedding really varies from state to state. I don’t have the answer, so I put the question to you!”
The Wedding Guru says…
The cost of the average wedding throughout all of the United Sates is about $30,000. Yes, the variance does depend on where in the country the wedding is being planned.
The most expensive weddings are held in Manhattan — surprise, surprise! — where the average cost is almost $90,000. Next is Long Island, where the average wedding costs about $60,000.
On the flip side, the most inexpensive wedding costs are in Idaho where the average bill will run you about $16,000. (Extra potatoes with your filet mignon, anyone?) After that, it’s West Texas, with an average cost of $17,000.
Granted, there’s not much you can do about where you live and the associated costs for a wedding. What you can do is to stick to your budget, eliminate the frills, and remember that it’s the sharing of a celebration that’s important, not how much money is spent on planning it!
