The Harvest at The Dutch Ale House
253 Main St, Saugerties, 845.247.2337
Why wait until Black Friday to savor a post-Thanksgiving turkey sandwich, fat with fixins? A holdover from The Dutch’s previous incarnation, The Harvest captures the annual feast in between two pieces of griddled Rye bread, and Chef Jonathan Botta adds an elegant touch with house-made cornbread stuffing and cranberry sauce. Don’t be surprised if The Harvest and the tap list keep you at this Saugerties hangout late into the evening.
Butternut Squash and Goat Cheese Tart at Babette’s Kitchen
3293 Franklin Ave, Millbrook, 845.677.8602
This bakery café emphasizes local and seasonal ingredients, and this tart is a perfect example. Butternut squash, a.k.a. the superstar of autumn, fulfills the promise of seasonal ingredients, while goat cheese from Hoofprint Cheese Company could practically be delivered on foot. This tart is also featured on Babette’s larger Thanksgiving catering menu, for which items can be ordered à la carte or as a complete meal and picked up on Wednesday, November 21.
Right Side of the Bed at Lolita’s Pizza
129 Washington St, Poughkeepsie, 845.452.8100
By now you’ve probably heard about the pizza at Lolita’s (and if you haven’t, here’s a hint: go there now), but the cocktail game here is underappreciated. Right Side of the Bed is a breakfast-inspired beverage that will be making appearances on Lolita’s specials menu throughout the month. It combines house-made maple oat milk with bourbon, espresso, crème de cocoa, and salted honey in a sweet and smooth start (or end) to your day.
Concord Grape Syrup at More Good
383 Main St, Beacon, 845.765.0115
No more spitting out seeds in order to enjoy the essence of autumn. The folks at More Good have bottled the tangy, sweet musk of this Northeastern fruit. Its uses are limited to your imagination: Add some seltzer for a refreshing soda, experiment with a PB & J cocktail, or mix a few drops into your pancake batter. A seasonal creation, this syrup is in limited supply, so get one while you can.
Fall Arctic Char at The Amsterdam
6380 Mill St, Rhinebeck, 845.516.5033
Why do poultry and beef get all the attention once the leaves change colors? Though less conventional, fall flavors and fish are a delectable match. Chef Alex Burger marries flaky grilled char with the classic autumnal combination of Brussels sprouts, bacon, and apples. All of this is rounded it out by a delicious mustard cream. Who says seafood is best in the summer?
