Despite living in one of the most exciting cities on the planet, sometimes New Yorkers get restless and need to get away.

Scratch that. Because New York is so busy and full of diversions, city dwellers simply must find ways to escape.

A long, stressful week in a hot, cramped city practically begs for a break somewhere calmer. Somewhere quieter. Somewhere where friendly people gather to hang out, laugh, unplug and look across acres and acres of green, instead of hunching over blue screens.

Drive just a couple of hours from the city to hit the links on the all-original Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course at Wiltwyck Golf Club—while gazing out on the Catskills, happy and content in the knowledge your family is having just as much fun as you.

Wiltwyck is located in Kingston, New York, just off exit 19 of the New York State Thruway. Since its opening in 1933, the Club’s pristine greens, modern championship golf architecture, and top tier customer service have been reserved for members only. However, earlier this year, the Club became semi-private, allowing non-members to enjoy some amenities previously reserved for members. Since that change, city dwellers have been making the short drive to partake in Wiltwyck’s luxury, away-from-it-all atmosphere.

The golf course is, of course, still the main attraction, but those seeking escape can also enjoy the pool, superb dining, family fun and more. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, young golfers can participate in a junior clinic, an unparalleled bargain at just $10 for one and a half hours of instruction. Wiltwyck even has a PGA junior team, as well as fall camps for tennis and golf.

Acclaimed chef Kenny Callaghan, known for his previous leadership at Helmsley Palace Hotel, The Russian Tea Room, Union Square Café and Blue Smoke, opened the newly designed Capital Tavern at Wiltwyck in early 2018. The restaurant now serves rustic American food with a fine dining touch, and features outdoor patio seating for guests who don’t want to look away from the views.

Of course, since Wiltwyck remains a club, the best way to enjoy all it has to offer is still with a membership. Membership benefits include access to preferred tee times, guest discounts, pro shop discounts and more.

And don’t forget the ultimate benefit: How you’re going to feel, breathing in fresh air and calm. Come see it for yourself.
