Congrats. You made it through to fall without falling to pieces over summer’s end. Now, start October off right with a weekend of live music, exceptional food, and if you dare, Insane Clown Posse.
FOR THE FALL’S BEST OUTDOOR MUSIC FEST
Huichica East, Pine Plains
This weekend fest is making its first-ever trip west from Sonoma wine country to the Hudson Valley. Pine Plains’ Chaseholm Farm will host two days of indie acts, grange-bred fare, estate wines, and camping along its scenic, wooded pastures. Friday’s lineup features legendary Band member Garth Hudson, Bill Callahan (aka Smog), and San Fran band Vetiver, who’ve toured with chart-toppers like Fleet Foxes and The Shins. Phosphorescent’s Matthew Houck will take the stage solo on Saturday, cowboy boots and all. Tickets range from $20-$90, and a shuttle will be provided from the Hudson train station.
FOR THE JUGGALO IN ALL OF US
Insane Clown Posse, Poughkeepsie
Calling all Juggalos: Your face-painted hip-hop heroes will have you believing in “Miracles” once more this Saturday at The Chance. Yup, Violent J and 2 Dope will be live, performing hits like “Hokus Pocus” and “Let’s Go All the Way” while costumed in their usual heavily applied, creepy clown makeup. The show will also feature openers U.F.O, King Irish, and Griddy.
FOR SETTLING DOWN AFTER INSANE CLOWN POSSE
Sky Lake Shambhala Meditation & Retreat Center, Rosendale
Relieve life’s stresses at this two-day retreat, designed to combat depression and anxiety and improve mental clarity and general well-being. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course involves a combination of mediation, yoga, and full body awareness in the tranquil setting of Shawangunk Ridge, adjacent to the Mohonk Preserve. No meditation experience is necessary.
FOR FOOD NIRVANA
High Falls Co-Op 40th Anniversary Party, High Falls
It’s been 40 years since the High Falls Food Cooperative started supplying our community with healthy eats at low, low prices. Celebrate this regional resource’s commitment to making sustainable, organic agriculture accessible at a free anniversary event, featuring a day of live music and foodie selections from the HFFC kitchen. It all kicks off at The Black Barn on Saturday.
FOR RIVER RATS

Hudson River Dine & Cruise, Poughkeepsie
Soak in scenic water views and fine food prepared by an onboard chef during either (or both!) of these one-way Sunday cruises via Classic Harbor Line’s 1920s-style Yacht Manhattan vessel. The first trip departs from Chelsea Piers in Manhattan at 8:30 am and travels along the Hudson to Poughkeepsie, featuring a four-course brunch while on board and wine tour after disembarking. That same evening, the yacht heads south-bound back to Chelsea, serving its passengers a four-course sunset dinner. Tickets for each cruise are $144, but for those prone to seasickness, the good news is it’s $112 if you exclude the meal.
