As a companion to our What to Do This Weekend feature, we thought,”Why leave you high and dry those other four days?” So with that, here’s an itinerary of how to keep you occupied from now till Thursday, at which point, you’ll be able to nearly throw up your hands and say, “It’s finally the day after Hump Day!” (Or TGIF, if you prefer.)
Monday
Shake, jiggle, and wiggle at Dreaming Goddess’ final hula-hoop workshop of the season. Whether you’re a beginner, or looking to relive a favorite childhood pastime, pro Katie Runnells will get your hips moving in a workout like no other. The hour-and-15-minute class begins at 6:30 pm, and costs just $10 to join in on the fun.
Tuesday
Outstanding in the Field at Samascott Orchard
Outstanding in the Field, a touring “restaurant without walls,” is coming to the Hudson Valley, looking to unite diners with the origins of their dinners. Guest chefs John McCarthy and Ryan Tate of Hudson’s The Crimson Sparrow will be serving a six-course, Asian-inspired meal under Samascott Orchard’s fruit trees and open pasture, highlighting the farm’s own bounty. This special menu includes shiso with marinated salmon roe and chicharron, pork loin and belly with gochujang and grilled zucchini over sweet corn and rice cakes, and orchard apples and pears topped with matcha and nigori cream and pomegranate seeds.
Wednesday
You may need reading glasses for this workout. Follow the footsteps of Washington Irving and literary geniuses of his ilk, who once strolled through Poet’s Walk Park’s dirt-trailed meadows and tranquil wooded vistas. In celebration of the park’s 20th anniversary, you’ll be powering through its two-mile expanse, making designated verse-reading stops to recite in the quiet of the valley. Come ready with your favorite poem, or share one provided by event organizers.
Thursday
The 2016 Columbia County Food Truck Village
Kinderhook’s annual food truck festival is back, featuring eight of HV’s most famous food trucks, serving up everything from German flatbread, flammkuchen to franks and frozen custard, plus beer from Chatham Brewing and Nassau’s S&S Farm Brewery. Head over to the Village Square at 5pm for a family friendly night of comfort food, community fun, and great tunes from local artists.
And don’t forget… The Dutchess County Fair is Aug. 23-28. Join the weekly festivities at Dutchess County Fairgrounds for a day of exciting games, sky-high rides, and a variety of valley-exclusive thrills.
Check back on Thursday for our aforementioned list of awesome events to explore this weekend.
