These Are the 5 Best Cider Donut Destinations in the Hudson Valley

When we asked you where your favorite local cider donut spots are, we never could have imagined the number of responses we would receive. Thousands of votes later, the results are in. Here are your winners, Hudson Valley:

1. Vera’s Marketplace, Cold Spring

A Cold Spring staple since 1982, this family-owned farm market and garden center consistently pumps out some of the best cider donuts around. In fact, we love them so much that they not only nabbed a 2015 Best of Hudson Valley editor’s pick for Best Cider Donut, but they also made a special appearance on our October 2015 cover. Baked fresh each morning, the treats come plain or topped with sugar, white powder, cinnamon sugar, or cinnamon powder. Whichever preference you proclaim, be sure to get there early because Vera’s sells out fast.

“Looks like the secret is out on Vera’s! No wonder they are so hard to procure! Hands down the most fantabulous donut out there.” — Steven Dias via Facebook

2. Jones Farm & Country Store, Cornwall

In business for over 100 years (yes, you read that correctly), this family-owned farm is known for much more than its homegrown produce and history. Hop on a hayride or head to the country store, but not before you pick up a from-scratch donut — or a dozen of ’em — from Grandma Phoebe’s Kitchen, and take in the stellar Schunemunk Mountain views.

3. Tantillo’s Farm Market, Gardiner

A former dairy farm, Tantilllo’s has been producing fresh fruit and veggies for over 80 years. But whether your visit is a day-long pick-your-own apple affair, or a quick pit-stop to the tiny roadside market stand, any trip to Tantillo’s isn’t complete without the award-winning cider donuts (they too won a 2015 Best of Hudson Valley reader’s pick for Best Cider Donuts), and a mouth full of cinnamon sugar.

4. Golden Harvest Farms, Valatie

Thought cider donuts were season-specific? Not at Golden Harvest. Their landmark Route 9 road stand sells cider donuts year-round, so if your cinnamon sugar game is permanently strong, you can satisfy your cravings just about any day of the year. And sure, you could wash it all down with some apple cider (also sold throughout the year), but we recommend a visit to Golden Harvest’s on-site farm distillery, Harvest Spirits, for some of their stellar Core Vodka.

5. Stuart’s Fruit Farm, Granite Springs

Visit on a busy day and you’ll see that Stuart’s donut frying machine practically never slows down (and thank goodness for that!). Available both with a sugar coating and without, their donuts tend to be on the puffier side, making them slightly larger than most. But if you’re thinking one will do, take just one bite and we can guarantee that you’ll be back in line. Best of all, at 85 cents a donut, they certainly won’t break the bank — though you may soon need a larger pair of pants.

Honorable Mention:

DuBois Farm, Highland

“DuBois Farm in Highland, NY has the very, very best apple cider donuts in the Hudson Valley. They are made upstairs in their market place all day long… hot from the oven to you… the smell is out of this world & the taste oh so much more… yes, yes this is the place to try. DuBois will not disappoint, I guarantee.” — Tillie Smedley via Facebook
