Terrapin Restaurant Presents Three-Day Holiday Beer Dinner

A local restaurant’s three-day dinner-and-beer pairing kicks our winter blues

If the stress of the holidays — or today’s onslaught of wintry weather — has you reaching for a cold one, slap on those snow tires and head to Rhinebeck, where Terrapin’s Holiday Beer Dinner may help to ease your mid-week fatigue.

Offered today, Wednesday, and Thursday, the dinner features four courses: Doughy, house-made pretzels dipped in creamy cranberry mustard washed down with Ithaca Beer Company’s White Gold IPA; a venison carpaccio or Tuscan kale winter salad, complemented by Kelso of Brooklyn’s Winter Lager and Brooklyn Brewery’s Silver Anniversary Lager; a main course of lamb or vegetarian navarin with sweet potato dumplings (Crossroads Christmas Ale, Mad Elf Christmas Ales, and Southern Tier Iniquity Black Ale); and finally, chocolate-marzipan fruit cookies with almond-flavored cream custard (followed by Terrapin’s own 2013 Reunion Ale).

Yes, you read that right: cookies and beer. An unlikely pairing? Not so much.

“It’s all about the flavors,” insists Terrapin’s Christen Wagner. “Holiday beers are heavier and spicier, and they go well with desserts.” (In case you’re still not sold, the Reunion Ale is made with coffee and cinnamon — sounds pretty sweet to us.)

Terrapin’s Holiday Beer Dinner runs Dec. 17-19 from 5-9 p.m. Visit terrapinrestaurant.com/menus/holiday-beer-dinner for more information.
