The 31st Annual Capital District Garden & Flower Show kicks off spring with bursting colors and luscious fragrances amid trickling waterfalls. Displays of fantastical landscapes, floral bouquets in various creations such as alligators and sunken treasures, and sand sculptures take center stage. The show highlights floral competitions in several categories. Also available will be wine tastings, educational booths, lectures, workshops, live cooking and flower demonstrations, tips, and trends. Through May 13: Votes for Women: Celebrating New York’s Suffrage Centennial An exhibition celebrating the centennial of women’s suffrage will be on display. Addressing the significance of women’s right to vote and the feminist movement, it will cover the era from the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention through 1917, when women were granted the right to vote, along with events in the early 21st century. March 11: Kingston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade In its 31st year, the luck of the Irish is alive and kicking as this fun celebration starts at Kingston Plaza and proceeds down Broadway to the Rondout Creek waterfront district. Numerous bands, floats, and community organizations will be taking part along with the annual Shamrock Run race. Vendors, food, and fun are to follow. March 13–15: Life is What You Make It: With Peter Buffett In an intimate concert and candid conversation with the audience, Emmy Award-winning composer, musician, and philanthropist Peter Buffett shares the story of his life and how it set the course for him to follow his passion for music and philanthropy.
