Asia. Afghanistan. Warsaw. The Hudson Valley — all places President Barack Obama has visited within the past weeks. But, dare we say, the Valley seems to be his favorite locale, as his May 28 trip marks his second excursion here in just two weeks.
Obama gives the commencement address at 10 a.m. to the graduates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. (During his May 14 visit, he spoke in front of the Tappan Zee Bridge and talked of federal funding for the new span.) In today’s speech, he discusses his foreign policy stance — namely his plan to remove all troops in Afghanistan by the end of his term — which comes just one day after he officially announced this strategy. The President’s foreign policy has recently been hotly criticized as being too passive (specifically on issues in Syria and Ukraine); according to aides, Obama’s address is intended to argue for a more “internationalist” approach to issues in other countries.
