Thru Jan. 24: Both history buffs and literature lovers are sure to flock to Bold, Cautious, True: Walt Whitman and American Art of the Civil War Era, now on view at the Katonah Museum of Art. Excerpts from Whitman’s writings are paired with works by artists such as Winslow Homer, Frederic Church, and Eastman Johnson. Taken together, the two art forms illuminate the major themes of the war — secession, death, emancipation, and a young country’s uncertain future.
