June 5-23 Landscape paintings by Woodstock artist Donald Elder are on view at Woodstock’s Elena Zang Gallery this month. The show features approximately 20 works, all executed over the last 18 months, which focus on the “play of light in nature,” according to Elder. Many of these imagined scenes of water, trees, and sky have an innate relationship to abstract expressionism, with bold brush strokes and strong colors. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Artist’s opening reception June 5, 2-5 p.m. • 3671 Rte. 212, Shady. 845-679-5432 or www.elenazang.com

June 6 Quick — who’s the most popular recording artist in the world? Give up? It’s megastar Julio Iglesias. He’s sold upwards of 300 million records in 14 languages; every 30 seconds, one of his romantic hits (“For All the Girls I’ve Loved Before,” “Always on My Mind,” “When I Fall in Love”) is played on a radio station somewhere across the globe. The Spanish crooner — and unabashed 1970s sex symbol — is touring to celebrate his 40 years in the music industry, and makes a stop at Poughkeepsie’s Bardavon Opera House this month for its annual fundraising gala. 7 p.m. $175 (includes post-show party at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel), $125 (preferred seating), and $75. • 35 Market St., Poughkeepsie. 845-473-2072 or www.bardavon.org

As is so often the case, the Jacob Burns Film Center offers a diverse cinematic lineup this month. The “Classic Italian Cinema” series dominates the schedule, with nine different titles (The Leopard, Bicycle Thieves) screened multiple times between June 4-24. On June 17, Academy Award-nominated animated short films are on tap. And bring the kids for Herbie Goes Bananas (June 5, 6, 13) and Swiss Family Robinson (June 19-20, 26-27). Call for exact schedule and ticket information. • 364 Manville Rd., Pleasantville. 914-747-5555 or www.burnsfilmcenter.org

Author of the best-selling novel The Keep, writer Jennifer Egan’s latest work, A Visit from the Goon Squad, gets the theatrical treatment this month as part of the Insights and Revelations Performance Series. Portions of the novel — which chronicles the lives of an aging punk rocker and the passionate but troubled younger woman who works for him — are given a staged reading by professional actors. The performance also includes a musical interlude by singer-songwriter (and New Rochelle native) Josh Rutt. June 10 at 8 p.m. $25. • The Emelin Theatre. 153 Library Ln., Mamaroneck. 914-698-0098 or www.emelin.org

June 17 Hudson Valley music venues seem to be filled with British rock stars lately; over the past few months, Ray Davies, Elvis Costello, and Mark Knopfler have all played to packed concert halls in the region. This month, guitarist Jeff Beck joins his compatriots when his worldwide “Emotion & Commotion” tour makes a stop at the Ulster Performing Arts Center. A onetime member of the ’60s band the Yardbirds (along with good buddy Eric Clapton), Beck is a legendary — and hugely influential — guitarist who’s won five Grammys for Best Rock Instrumental (the most recent of which was awarded this past January). A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Beck’s recordings run the musical gamut from heavy metal and blues to jazz fusion. 7:30 p.m. $75-$85. • 601 Broadway, Kingston. 845-339-6088 or www.upac.org

Garden enthusiasts and architecture buffs alike should mark June 12 — the date of Putnam County’s Secret Garden Tour — on their calendars. Private gardens from Carmel to Cold Spring open their gates to the public for this self-guided tour, showing off formal designs, flowering landscapes, water gardens, plots of vegetables and herbs — everything a horticulturalist could ask for. And those interested in house design won’t want to miss the chance to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home on Petra Island in Lake Mahopac (pictured above; the structure is believed to be the last known house in the U.S. built using Wright’s plans on the exact location he intended). 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Advance sale tickets to the Wright house and all gardens are $90, $30 for the gardens only; funds raised by this event support services for Putnam County residents with developmental disabilities. Call for complete information. • 845-278-7272, ext. 287 or www.partnerswithparc.org
