These Hudson Valley Polar Plunges Make the Chill Worth the Thrill

Do you plan on freezing for a reason this season? These arctic dips and polar plunges for charity make it easy to take the dive.

Throughout the winter, a number of towns in the Hudson Valley host annual polar plunges to raise money for charities and organizations in our communities. Although you have to be a little crazy to agree to a January swim in New York, maybe the fact that it’s for a great cause will keep you feeling warm inside. Whether you want to jump in with your friends for an unforgettable experience or make a solo splash for a special cause, here are the polar plunges you won’t want to miss this winter.

Head to Highland this February in honor of loved ones living with Alzheimer’s. First held in 2010, the Subzero Heroes polar plunge has since expanded dramatically to include more community members and cold-weather lovers. Funds raised for the event help support the Alzheimer’s Association’s goals of providing care, support, and research on behalf of the six million Americans living with the disease, as well as their families.

Your jump helps support three hugely important Hudson institutions that promote safe recreation in and around the water. Proceeds are split between the Hudson Youth Department, the Hudson Fire Department’s Water Rescue Unit, and Perfect Ten after-school program. Crazy costumes are recommended for anyone willing to take the jump, and there will be prizes for the lucky winners.
