Moments Found in Nature
![]() The Chant a la Terre exhibit showcases stripped-down landscapes using a broad spectrum of colors. |
Simplicity equates clarity, and for Jean Duquoc’s Chant a la Terre exhibit, his recent works are synonymous with this very purpose. They offer an honest and more direct distillation of the landscape, the subject of his life’s work. They are grounded by a stripped-down and freer hand, evidenced by the immediacy and maturation of an assured brush work. One can readily sense a renewed vitality. His palettes, too, are evolved — less reliant solely on primaries, they instead offer a broader and most satisfactory spectrum. There exists a definite purity, as well, to his sumptuous color choices.

Stand-up Is His Passion
|
For the past 40 years comedian Robert Klein has been making people laugh: as a stand-up comedian, on Broadway, on television, and in film. Versatility, Klein said in a New York Times interview, has kept him “interested and working.” But stand-up is his passion, and he is credited by many with helping invent the genre. “Robert Klein’s style and brilliance changed the face of stand-up,” according to Ray Romano. Best known for his unique brand of observational humor, he has a gift for satirical social criticism. Honest, self-questioning and always contagiously funny, Klein has never spared directing his rapier and scathing wit on himself, not just inspiring laughs but an entire generation of headliners like Jay Leno. Jerry Seinfeld, who considers Klein his mentor and hero, says, “Klein has always been the funniest, most intelligent, coolest comedian.”
