M.E. Time
With two Grammys and an Oscar under her belt, Melissa Etheridge released her 12th studio album, This is M.E., last September. The rocker and breast cancer survivor comes to the Queen City to perform her new tunes as well as old favorites like “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs,” and “Come to My Window.” Etheridge also tells inspiring tales from her life and reveals some of the origins of her favorite songs. Singin’ the Blues
At just 14 years old, Jonny Lang’s distinguished voice was compared to that of a 40-year-old blues veteran. Also a talented guitarist, five of his albums reached the Billboard Top 50, and his album Turn Around earned him a Grammy Award. He teams up with multi-platinum-selling blues/rock axe man, Kenny Wayne Shepherd (who has received five Grammy nods himself) for an evening of blues and rock ‘n’ roll. Catch the Train
The band that gained their fame from their chart-topper and Grammy Award-winning tune “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” heads to Bethel Woods this month. Train has sold more than 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide, and most recently made a splash with their single “Drive By,” which secured the number-10 slot on the Billboard Top 100 list. The Fray also takes the stage, performing favorites like “How to Save a Life” and “Over My Head (Cable Car)” as well as tracks from their new 2014 album Helios. Tickling the Ivories
Eighteen-year-old piano prodigy Keely Schmerber has been playing the instrument since she was only three. Now an accomplished musician (she has received several awards over the last few years, including the Premier Young Artist Award scholarship to the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University), she spends an evening on the East Lawn of Olana, performing works by Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, and Liszt. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnic baskets. Green With Envy
Fairy tales have universal appeal thanks to the happily-ever-after endings — and the sins against which they warn us. Multimedia artist Adrien Broom uses classic fairy tales to highlight various ways jealousy manifests itself in The Seven Deadly Sins: Envy. Part of the Seven Deadly Sins inaugural exhibition of the Fairfield/Westchester Museum Alliance in which each member organization presents one of the cardinal sins, the installation includes photographs, costumed mannequins, and “stage sets.” Snow White’s Evil Queen, Cinderella’s stepsisters, and other fairy-tale characters make appearances and show how they are archetypes for the wickedness.
