It’s not often that live dancers perform in art galleries, yet that is precisely what happens at the Hudson River Museum. On select Sundays this month, students from serious high school and college dance programs — as well as professional dancers from New York City dance companies — dominate the floors. The second installment of The Met: Live in HD series for the month is Puccini’s Turandot. The great composer’s last opera, it is based loosely off a play by 18th-century Italian dramatist Carlo Gozzi. The tale follows the alluring Turandot, a princess of ancient China, who puts off every suitor who seeks her hand by dooming them with puzzling riddles; any wrong answer results in death. Until one day, the brave Calaf sings the famous “Nessun Dorma” and wins her heart. Jan. 30. 1 p.m. $27, $25 members, $20 children under 12. Now that the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art is currently between exhibits, you might think that means there’s nothing going on. Think again! For the second year in a row, the museum hosts the Live Art Fest. Nearly 20 artists, painters, musicians, sculptors, dancers, and performance artists display their talents and creative process for visitors.
