One part of her thought she wanted to be a singer. Another part of her yearned to follow the lead of her industrial engineer dad and her interior designer mom, who between them shared their complementary passions for color and clean lines, structure, and balance. Eventually, heredity won out and Soraya Osorio pursued furniture design, choosing metals like brass, bronze, and steel over wood because they are “warm, malleable, sensuous materials and yet incredibly strong.”
With no formal training and working out of a Poughkeepsie-area studio, chosen for its proximity both to New York City and nature, Osorio began assembling the tools of the metal trade to create, test, and build furniture models. “The word ‘impossible’ does not exist in my world,” says Osorio. “I took the plunge and never looked back. I am always up for a challenge and it better be a good one.”
For the past 20 years, Osorio has dreamed up minimalist metalwork designs that have landed in some of the most luxurious retail and residential spaces on the planet, including Takashimaya, Pierre Hardy, MR Architecture + Decor, J. Mendel Boutiques and Aurélie Bidermann NYC. She also works closely with designers and architects to create one-of-a-kind pieces not seen anywhere else.
In 2014, Osorio cut loose with a signature line, Inspiration Collected, which works well in both contemporary and classic settings. It comprises eight iconic and easy-to-mix pieces — a chaise, mirror, three tables, screen, desk, and bench — so you can bring some of her unique vibe home.
