An Evening With Dar Williams

For one very special night, acclaimed singer-songwriter (and Hudson Valleyite) Dar Williams takes the stage at SUNY New Paltz. Best known for her folk-pop sound, Williams has released 10 albums and four books to date. If you’ve never caught the soulful songstress in her element before, you won’t want to miss her croon works from her most recent album, Emerald, along with – fingers crossed – classics like “When I Was a Boy” and “It’s Alright.”
“Shanks Legacy” Grand Opening

Do you love reading up on American history? If so, you’re going to want to plan a visit to the Orangetown Historical Museum for the opening of “Shanks Legacy” on Saturday. The exhibit tells the story of a secret camp that processed a whopping 1.3 million troops before they ventured to Europe and North America during WWII and explores the camp’s impact on Orangeburg’s development. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the other historic exhibits on display (for free, although donations are accepted).
Record Store Day
Darkside Records, Poughkeepsie

Get ready to throw on your top vinyl in honor of Record Store Day. To celebrate on Saturday, Poughkeepsie’s Darkside Records hosts a jampacked schedule of to-dos from open to close. Come in the morning for free java from The Poughkeepsie Grind, then stick around for prizes from 92.7 and 96.9 WRRV. As for music, live performances from Y La Bamba, Valence, and a number of Hudson Valley bands keep the good times (and tunes) going.
Opening Day at Museum Village
Museum Village, Monroe

Museum Village is back in action! On Saturday, the Monroe destination reopens its doors for explorations, tours, and journeys back in time. Bring the kids for chats with costumed interpreters and a springtime scavenger hunt that weaves education and entertainment. After Saturday, Museum Village will be open Saturdays and Sundays only until summer, when it kicks off its regular operating schedule.
National Gardening Day
Children’s Museum of Science + Technology, Troy

Celebrate National Gardening Day with the little ones at Troy’s Children’s Museum of Science + Technology. The kids will love learning how to plant their own garden and choose the right seeds during the afternoon workshop, which also includes a free art activity about gardening. Throughout the day, assorted science, engineering, and animal programs provide further entertainment for young learners.
