Global Rhythms
Feb. 19: Multicultural Variety Show Explore music and dance styles from different cultures across the globe without even leaving the Valley. This ’round-the-world performance features African dance and drumming with Chiku Awali, Spanish flamenco dance by Ana de la Paz (left), and traditional Irish dancing by the Verlin School. The event is hosted by the nonprofit organization ArtsRock and takes place at the Nyack Center. 11 a.m. $12 in advance, $15 at the door. • 58 Depew Ave., Nyack
Dinner Theater
Feb. 6: The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites Three whimsical stories by lauded author Eric Carle come to life onstage at the Egg. Watch the Very Hungry Caterpillar emerge as a beautiful butterfly, go on an adventure with the shape-shifting Little Cloud, and join the Mixed Up Chameleon as he travels through the zoo. The production by the Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia features just as many brilliant colors as the gorgeously illustrated books, complete with black-light effects and original music. 3 p.m. $16.

Animal House
Feb. 5: Discover the Fox Learn all about the life and habitat of this slyest of all critters at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum. Native foxes can be seen trotting all around the Valley, and during this event guests participate in a “winter ramble” excursion around the center’s grounds in search of clues which might indicate whether one has paid a recent visit. 10 a.m. $5. • Outdoor Discovery Center. Feb. 19: Owl Prowl Later in the month, head over to the museum’s Wildlife Education Center for an evening of all things owl; learn truths and myths about these nocturnal birds then venture outside on a guided search into the woods to try and spy one yourself. Big Bird
Feb. 12: The Firebird In this whimsical puppet show based on the traditional Russian ballet and folktale of the same name, a mythical bird with glowing feathers awakens and threatens a Russian kingdom. It’s up to two brave companions to face the firebird and break the spell placed over the land. The Puppet People bring these characters to life onstage through the use of hand-crafted marionettes, intricate costumes, and fantastical scenery at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. 11 a.m. $9, $7 children.
