Kid's Korner

School’s out this month, and we’ve got even more reasons for kids to love June. Learn about ladybug lore, watch an enchanting musical, and step back in time for some old-fashioned fun.

A Slipper Saves the Day

June 4-20: Cinderella The magical story of Cinderella has been transformed through numerous cultures and decades, but Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical love story from the 1950s still enchants the hearts of the young and old. In this classic story, a young woman’s dreams of marrying a prince are scoffed at by her evil stepsisters, but end up coming true with the help of some magical friends. Throughout the month, the tale is retold onstage at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, and features the unforgettable tunes “My Own Little Corner” and “Impossible: It’s Possible.” Fri.-Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 3 p.m. $22, $20 seniors & children. • 661 Rte. 308, Rhinebeck. 845-876-3080 or www.centerforperformingarts.org

Little Girl, Big Heart

June 5-6: Annie Leapin’ lizards! This popular comic strip-turned-musical tells the heartwarming tale of Little Orphan Annie and her adventures living in an orphanage run by the wicked Miss Hannigan. She makes new friends along the way, helps to put a stop to Miss Hannigan’s shenanigans, and even finds a loving family to live with at billionaire Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks’ home. The production is brought to life on the Ulster Performing Arts Center stage by the New York Conservatory for the Arts of Hurley. Sat. 7:30 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. $21, $18 seniors & students. • 601 Broadway, Kingston. 845-339-6088 or www.upac.org

You’ll make your own candles, try your hand at operating a blacksmith’s bellows, and participate in all types of spinning, weaving, quilting, cooking, churning, and other activities. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. $12, $10 seniors, $6 children 5-17, free under 5. • 525 S.
