Jan. 15: Bring the Kids Family Concert Let your inner animal come out and play as the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra performs Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. The musical suite, featuring narration by local D.J. Joe Manglass, is made up of 14 movements that allow the imagination to run wild with vivid images of the different creatures the music represents. During the finale, all “animals” come together in a dazzling composition of sound. Jan. 15: Cold-Blooded Creatures Our pet dogs and cats have nice fur coats to help keep them warm during the winter, but what happens to our reptilian friends when it’s chilly out? Learn tons of cool facts about cold-blooded critters at the Greenburgh Nature Center this month. You’ll get the chance to see and — if you’re more daring — even hold some of them, too. 2 p.m. $6. Jan. 23: Finding and Feeding Winter Birds Take a stroll through the center’s grounds to learn about the lives of local snowbirds; discover what they eat and where they live when the snow falls. Hit the trails
Jan. 15: Winterfest Back for its 13th year, this annual frosty festival along the Hudson Valley Rail Trail gives you a reason to continue celebrating some of the best post-holiday parts of winter. Hang out in the children’s activity tent or take a wagon ride along the trail. Then munch on toasted marshmallows and roasted chestnuts while watching an ice carving demonstration. World’s fair
Jan. 17: River Town Street Fair Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by learning about the world’s diverse cultures. The Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum’s annual street fair focuses on the traditions of inhabitants from a variety of different nations. Among other customs, guests can enjoy a muy delicioso treat at a Mexican bakery, visit a construction site manned by a Haitian contractor, learn about Chinese language arts, and view a Middle Eastern marketplace. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. • 75 N.
