THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, PURCHASE COLLEGE The Phantom Tollbooth Nov. 16: Tag along with Milo and his faithful watchdog Tock as they travel the Kingdom of Wisdom in this musical adaptation of Norton Juster’s classic novel, which, almost 50 years after it was first published, remains one of children’s literature’s greatest odes to the power of knowledge. Renowned for its playful language, the story sees our heroes escape the Doldrums, jump to the island of Conclusions, and match wits with bad guys like the Terrible Trivium, all in the name of rescuing princesses Rhyme and Reason from the Mountains of Ignorance. 3 p.m. $15-$22.

TIMES UNION CENTER Pop Go The Wiggles Live! Nov. 2: Much to the delight of toddlers across the Valley, those adorable Aussies known as the Wiggles are stopping in Albany on their fall U.S. tour. Sam, Murray, Jeff, and Anthony (or the Yellow, Red, Purple, and Blue Wiggle, respectively) are sure to play all the preschool-rockin’ favorites, including “The Monkey Dance” and “Toot, Toot, Chugga, Chugga, Big Red Car.” Expect visits from friends like Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword, too. 1:30 p.m. $18-$38.

RHINEBECK CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS Pocahontas Nov. 8: Performing artist Kitty Jones puts on a one-woman show about Pocahontas and her fellow Eastern Native American tribe members with a little help from kids in the audience, whom she brings onstage to portray the title character’s siblings (but only with their permission, of course). Cinderella Nov. 15: Pining for Prince Charming? Cinderella, her longed-for prince, and the wicked stepsisters are portrayed by lavishly costumed wooden puppets in this stage version of the fairy tale. Magic with John Shaw Nov. 29: The nationally known illusionist, who has appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Ripley’s Believe It or Not, performs family-friendly magic acts. All shows 11 a.m. $8, $6 children.

MID-HUDSON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM Poetry for Kids Nov. 11 & 15: A little poetry practice never hurt anyone, whether your tyke spits out sonnets like Shakespeare or spends most of class searching for words that rhyme with “booger.” Here, members of Marist College’s Literary Arts Society help kids craft their own stanzas and read rhyming schemes like a pro. Tracking Coyotes Nov. 8: Hear all about how coyotes hunt and raise their young, and take home a plastic cast of the animal’s track. Autumn Animals Nov. 15: Fall is in full swing, and the local wildlife has taken notice. Discover how turkeys, deer, coyotes, and other animals adjust to the colder weather.
