Puppets for bookworms
Oct. 26 & 27: Leo Lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick, and Inch by Inch The Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia brings to life three of Leo Lionni’s lovable children’s stories — Swimmy, Frederick, and Inch by Inch — using puppets. Swimmy is a tiny fish cast aside by the others in his school because he looks different, but in the end is able to use that trait to help save them from trouble. Frederick is a clever mouse with a love of poetry and the arts; and Inchworm, the star of Inch by Inch, loves to measure anything and everything. Meet all these colorful characters at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House (Oct. 26, 10 a.m. & 12 p.m.) or the Ulster Performing Arts Center (Oct. 27, 10 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.). Suitable for children pre-K through second grade. • 35 Market St., Poughkeepsie. 845-473-2072 or www.bardavon.org; 601 Broadway, Kingston. 845-339-6088 or www.upac.org
