Some pig

Dec. 4: Charlotte’s Web This familiar tale by E.B. White comes to life onstage at the Emelin Theatre. When Wilbur the pig is threatened with becoming a pork chop, an unlikely friend — a spider named Charlotte — weaves a web displaying words that tell what’s special about Wilbur. Thanks to Charlotte, the pig becomes a sensation on the farm — and makes the farmer rethink his actions. 11 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. $18, $13 children. • 153 Library Ln., Mamaroneck. 914-698-0098 or www.emelin.org

gingerbread house workshop

Home for the holidays

Dec. 10-11: Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop Normally we wouldn’t suggest putting sticky candy all over the walls, but at this Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum workshop, it’s encouraged. Each participant receives his or her own fully assembled, locally baked gingerbread house, and a variety of candies and chocolates with which to decorate it. The hardest part is trying not to eat the whole thing on the drive home. Fri. 5 & 7 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. $25. Can’t get enough arts and crafts for the season? Check out the museum’s Light Up the Winter event, during which you can make all kinds of creations from a variety of cultures, including a clay menorah for Hanukkah and a colorful design for Diwali. Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. $4 plus admission. • 75 N. Water St., Poughkeepsie. 845-471-0589 or www.mhcm.org

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

Dec. 11: Holiday & Me This holiday-themed workshop at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts gives children and their families the chance to make sweet music together. Using various craft materials, participants create musical instruments like drums and maracas; later, they gather in a circle and use the handmade instruments to play festive tunes — singing and dancing encouraged. Jingle all the way! 10 a.m. $24. • 200 Hurd Rd., Bethel. 866-781-2922 or www.bethelwoodscenter.org

Looney tunes

Dec. 12: Fuzzy Lollipop Lace up your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie as this exciting children’s band performs at Unison Arts Center. During the interactive show, audience members listen to a mix of songs — from cool originals to familiar favorites — and even get the chance to participate in the performance. Kids of all ages enjoy the band’s music; so don’t be surprised, mom and dad, if you feel like dancing, too. 3 p.m. $10. • 68 Mountain Rest Rd., New Paltz. 845-255-1559 or www.unisonarts.org

Smile for the birdie

Dec. 14: Decorate for the Birds While many birds prefer to fly south in winter, there are still several species that stick around to dance in your snow angels and make friends with your snowman. Learn all about these cold-loving feathered friends of ours — and make a fun, festive feeder to take home — at this Hudson Highlands Nature Museum event. 10 a.m. $5. • Outdoor Discovery Center. Muser Dr., Cornwall. 845-534-5506 or www.hhnaturemuseum.org
