HISTORIC HUGUENOT STREET Colonial Overnight for Kids July 10: No Xbox? No computer? No electricity?!? Don’t worry, kids, you’re not grounded. You are, however, invited to an 18th century-style sleepover in the stone houses of Huguenot Street, the National Historic Landmark district in New Paltz. There, you’ll let loose the same way our Valley forebears did: by playing colonial-era games and making crafts. Guests receive a tour of the historic avenue, and end the night by hitting the hay (literally: the mattresses are made of straw) in DuBois Fort. Bring a sleeping bag, pajamas, and a toothbrush; everything else you’ll need is provided (including dinner cooked over an open fire). Ages 8-14. THE GREATER NEWBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Summer Pops at Downing July 25: You’ve always known little Ethan or Emma was the world’s next great conductor. Here’s their chance to earn full-blown prodigy status. The orchestra and its conductor, Woomyung Choe, perform an outdoor concert of pop songs, show tunes, and classical standards. During one march, Choe asks the kids in the audience to join him up front and, after a quick lesson, help him conduct the orchestra. Prior to and after their big star turn, they’re free to scamper about the park while Mom and Dad sit in the grass and take in the music. 4 p.m. Downing Park. DOCTOROW CENTER FOR THE ARTS Happily Ever After — A Cinderella Tale July 11: The story of Cinderella is kind of a Cinderella story in and of itself: The simple tale of servant-turned-princess has thrived across cultures as diverse as ancient Egypt and modern-day America. Two thousand years after the fairy tale was first told, the Pushcart Players — an Emmy-nominated troupe that has performed at the White House — travel to Greene County to retell the fable, this time in musical form. 3:30 p.m. $7. FISHER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS AT BARD COLLEGE Cirque Voilá July 25-26: SummerScape, a six-week-long arts festival that Bard hosts every summer, offers something for everyone — including kids. The young’uns should go gaga for this modern circus show, best described as a two-man Cirque du Soleil. Performer Paul Wildbaum plays the part of the clown, while partner Michael Menes hams it up as a juggler and general master of physical theater. 3:30 p.m. $15, $5 children. TARRYTOWN MUSIC HALL Tap Kids July 25: A group of musically gifted teenagers rejoice and fret over the big school dance and graduation. It’s like High School Musical — but with tap dancing! A production of Tarrytown’s New York Stage Originals production company, this tapfest has been touring the country since its debut all the way down in Tampa Bay seven years ago.
