The Henson Is a Boutique Hotel That Has It All in the Catskills

In Greene County, The Henson is a recently opened boutique hotel that offers an idyllic setting for a secluded Catskills getaway.

This summer, the picturesque Catskills town of Hensonville welcomed a new boutique hotel that truly has it all. The thoughtfully designed getaway, The Henson, offers the perfect escape for secluded weekends in the Greene County town that boasts a population of fewer than 500 and not a single stoplight. With 16 unique guestrooms, personalized hospitality, and a sprawling property that showcases a creek and two expansive lawns, The Henson is a Catskills dream.

The Henson is co-owned by husband-wife duo Ely and Danielle Franko, founders of Catskills rental company The Hunter Houses, and their long-time friends and chefs Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske Valtierra. Though a new modern luxury hotel, the destination has a rich history that dates back to a 1918 postcard. The property’s design was inspired by the inn’s historic architecture and surrounding landscape, with furnishings curated from an impressive collection of vintage items.

Inside, 16 ensuite bedrooms on the second and third floors are flooded with natural light and warm tones. Each room is equipped with high-end amenities, from custom robes to rainfall showers to Casper mattresses. Five different room types excite with separate focal points depending on guest desires: The Juliets feature a namesake balcony that overlooks the mountains; The Third Floor greets guests with a double vanity; The Garden Suites are the most spacious rooms; The Balcony Rooms offer access to the covered front porch balcony; and The Cozy feature a king bed and walk-in closet.

On the surrounding property, an herb garden, a creek for summer dips, and two expansive lawns that are perfect for weddings and events further add to the beauty of The Henson’s location. The hotel also includes a rooftop deck that overlooks Windham Mountain, an honor bar, a cozy living room space, and an onsite restaurant named Matilda.

A fine dining establishment, Matilda pulls inspiration from the Hudson Valley in all its dishes and is operated by acclaimed chefs Jeremiah Stone and Fabian von Hauske Valtierra. Creative bites like East Coast oyster with pickled knotweed, mustard seeds, and anise herb oil or smoked steelhead trout with nori puree, garlic mustard, and sea beans will keep you coming back for more hyperlocal meals at the restaurant — especially since the menu is set to rotate every four to six weeks.

When it comes to events, The Henson has it covered. With spaces that are designed to feel like a large home and curated to host family and friend gatherings and celebrations, the hotel can accommodate any private event needs. From intimate dinner celebrations to all-day parties, individuals can choose from seven different spaces, including the gardens, the back dining deck and firepit, the roof deck, the private dining room, the living room, Matilda’s restaurant, or Matilda’s bar.

“The Henson is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination where guests can experience the charm and allure of the Catskills in a setting as welcoming as it is sophisticated,” says Danielle Franko. “Our Catskills is defined by the beauty of the landscape and the warmth of its people. We look forward to sharing this magic with every guest.”

The Henson is located at 39 Goshen Road in Hensonville.
