July 4, 9 p.m.: Catch the Poughkeepsie fireworks from an interesting location – atop the newly built Walkway Over the Hudson. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m., and those who wish to watch the event from the Walkway can pre-purchase a wristband for $10. For other spectators, find your favorite spot along the river to catch the display.

July 4, 12-6 p.m.: Journey back in time with the celebrations at Westchester’s Van Cortlandt Manor and Sunnyside historic sites. The festivities include old-fashioned ice cream making, military reenactments, a grand parade, readings of the Declaration of Independence, and games of town ball (an early version of baseball). Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors; $6 for children 5-17; free under age 5.
