Founded in the 1960s by renowned aviator James Henry “Cole” Palen — whose famous catchphrase was “No problem, it’ll fly” — the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is touted as America’s original living museum of antique aircraft. It also boasts one of the world’s largest collections of planes, featuring a Wright Flyer and Ryan NYP (New York to Paris), a reproduction of Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis.
The museum displays more than 85 antique engines and ground vehicles, including Ford Model T cars and a Renault tank.
Today, the Aerodrome regularly hosts airplane rides, air shows, and other family-friendly events. Look out for Model Airplane Weekend (Sept. 11-12) and Women Fly Weekend (Sept. 18-19) this month.
