Say farewell to summer at the Mark Gruber Gallery, where more than 15 regional artists exhibit work in a group show entitled “Summerscapes.” As the name implies, these paintings depict our beloved Valley landscape as it appears during the warm weather months. The sultry skies of Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, cool forests of Thomas Locker, and sunny fields of flowers by Carolyn Edlund and Mireille Duchesne are just a few of the unique scenes on display through Sept. 7. Mon. 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Tues.-Fri. 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun. by appt. • New Paltz Plaza, New Paltz. 845-255-1241 or www.markgrubergallery.com
The vocal ensemble Kairos: A Consort of Singers continues its popular Bach Cantata Series, which is now in its eighth year. For its third concert of the current season, the group performs Bach’s Cantata No. 5 — which includes an unusual aria for tenor and solo viola — as part of the evensong church service at the Holy Cross Monastery. An instrumental work and an a capella motet are also on the liturgical program. Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. $10 suggested donation. • 1615 Broadway (Rte. 9W), West Park. 845-256-9114 or www.kairosconsort.org
Up-and-coming Canadian comedian Russell Peters is quickly making a name for himself here in the U.S.; last fall, he became the first comic to sell out Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Arena. Peters is of Anglo-Indian descent; his Bombay-born father is frequently mentioned in his routines. He credits iconic funnyman George Carlin as one of the biggest influences on his humor, which pokes gentle fun at racial, ethnic, and cultural stereotypes. Catch him at Albany’s Palace Theatre. Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. $28-$98. • 19 Clinton Ave., Albany. 518-465-3334 or www.palacealbany.com
In their tailored suits and skinny neckties, the Midtown Men mimic the sartorial style of Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack cronies — but their sound is pure rock and roll. Comprised of original cast members — including Tony winner Christian Hoff — from the Broadway smash Jersey Boys, this quartet belts out chart-toppers by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Temptations, and the Jackson 5 (among other mega-groups from the 1960s). Their coast-to-coast tour brings them to Tarrytown on Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. $40-$95. • Tarrytown Music Hall. 13 Main St., Tarrytown. 877-840-0457 or www.tarrytownmusichall.org
Glenview, the historic Victorian home that is attached to the Hudson River Museum, hosts a series of special programs this month. Visitors can try their hand at croquet in the house’s courtyard — but beware of the jumps, sand boxes, and bridges that give this traditional game a 21st-century zing (weekends through Sept. 29). Learn about decorative patterns in early 20th-century home and garden design with artist-in-residence Adam Parker Smith; and enjoy scenes from The Magic Flute and other classic operas, which are performed by Westchester Community College students (Sept. 8, 15, & 22). 1-4 p.m. $5, $3 seniors & youth 5-16, under 5 free. • 511 Warburton Ave., Yonkers. 914-963-4550 or www.hrm.org
