The vocal ensemble Kairos: A Consort of Singers continues its popular Bach Cantata Series, which is now in its eighth year. For its third concert of the current season, the group performs Bach’s Cantata No. 5 — which includes an unusual aria for tenor and solo viola — as part of the evensong church service at the Holy Cross Monastery. Up-and-coming Canadian comedian Russell Peters is quickly making a name for himself here in the U.S.; last fall, he became the first comic to sell out Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Arena. Peters is of Anglo-Indian descent; his Bombay-born father is frequently mentioned in his routines. He credits iconic funnyman George Carlin as one of the biggest influences on his humor, which pokes gentle fun at racial, ethnic, and cultural stereotypes. Catch him at Albany’s Palace Theatre. In their tailored suits and skinny neckties, the Midtown Men mimic the sartorial style of Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack cronies — but their sound is pure rock and roll. Comprised of original cast members — including Tony winner Christian Hoff — from the Broadway smash Jersey Boys, this quartet belts out chart-toppers by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Temptations, and the Jackson 5 (among other mega-groups from the 1960s). Glenview, the historic Victorian home that is attached to the Hudson River Museum, hosts a series of special programs this month. Visitors can try their hand at croquet in the house’s courtyard — but beware of the jumps, sand boxes, and bridges that give this traditional game a 21st-century zing (weekends through Sept. 29).
