Events: Polly’s Editor Picks in March 2012

Upwards of 20 local artists take part in “Small Works — A Group Show” at the Mark Gruber Gallery. Although the canvases may be compact, the stature of these well-known painters — Thomas Locker, Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, Staats Fasoldt, among them — is anything but diminutive. Mon. 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Tues.-Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sun. by appt. thru March 14. • New Paltz Plaza. Rte. 299, New Paltz. 845-255-1241 or www.markgrubergallery.com

yunah lee

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra welcomes a special guest — lyric soprano Yunah Lee — to its winter concert. Lee has garnered rave reviews as a concert and opera singer, landing plum roles in the City Opera productions of La Bohème and Carmen. She performs two works of sacred music by Mozart; Schubert’s challenging ninth symphony makes up the balance of the program. March 10 at 3 p.m. (snow date March 17). $25 reserved, $20 general admission, $15 seniors, $10 students, under 7 free. • Newburgh Free Academy H.S. 201 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh. 845-913-7157 or www.newburghsymphony.org

blues brothers

A cult film favorite if ever there was one, The Blues Brothers made musical stars out of SNL funnymen John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. The Official Blues Brothers Revue — which rolls into the Lycian Centre this month — features a pair of Jake and Elwood look-alikes, who perform the R&B classics that made the 1980 movie such a hit. Lest you think this is just another tribute show, the revue has the endorsement of both Dan Aykroyd and Belushi’s widow, Judy. March 16 at 8 p.m. Call for ticket information. • 1351 Kings Hwy., Sugar Loaf. 845-469-2287 or www.lyciancentre.com

Hear them perform their unique harmonies on March 18 at the Egg. 7:30 p.m. $29.50. • Empire State Plaza, Albany. 518-473-1845 or www.theegg.org
