Dog days

Oct. 6: Dalmatian Day We’ve all seen the familiar image of a dalmatian with flopping ears riding in the front seat of a fire truck. The firefighting Fidos take a day off from their usual duties for a meet-and-greet to teach youngsters about fire safety. Kids can make their own crafts and try to beat the record for the fastest bucket brigade. 10 a.m. $5, $2 children five and older, $10 family (2 adults and 2 children). Peek performers

Oct. 5: Embark Peekskill Celebrate the performing arts as the Amazing Magic Margo does her incredible tricks, which have captivated kids on five continents. Stick around for Teatro SEA; the bilingual children’s theater group puts on a puppet show that tells the story of Pinocchio with some Mexican cultural twists. 6:30 p.m. $20, $10 children under 13 (cash only). Oct. 21: Lowly Worm and Huckle Cat Characters from Richard Scarry’s popular Busytown book series are having a talent show at the Emelin Theatre. Blowing bubbles

Oct. 13: Bubble Trouble This interactive show explains what exactly makes a bubble a bubble. After revealing how the special suds help us in little ways we don’t realize, one lucky volunteer gets to be placed inside a giant one. 11 a.m. $9, $7 children. All aboard

Oct. 20-21, 27-28: Kingston Halloween Train Ghouls and goblins have taken over the Catskill Mountain Railroad! These friendly creatures operate an old-time locomotive to give passengers (who are expected to show up in their best costumes) a 30-minute ride around Kingston.
