Events: Kid’s Korner in March 2012

Spring is almost here — and that means it’s time to tap the Valley’s maple trees for syrup. Four local venues host maple sugaring events this month

March 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25: Maple Sugar Festival Enjoy games, crafts, and Native American storytelling around a campfire — as well as sweet treats and recipes using maple syrup — at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum (March 3, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Call for ticket information). The museum also offers Maple Sugar Tours each weekend, during which participants can watch the sap flow right out of the tree. 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. $12, $6 children under 12. • Outdoor Discovery Center. 100 Muser Dr., Cornwall. 845-534-5506 or www.hhnaturemuseum.org

March 4, 11 & 17: Sugaring Sundays Held at Teatown Lake Reservation, these hour-long tours of the site’s Warren’s Sugarhouse teach you all the ins and outs of maple sugaring, from tapping the trees to bottling the final product (March 4 & 11. 1, 2, & 3 p.m. $5). During the annual Pancake Brunch (March 17), you can chow down on hotcakes covered in syrup, and visit the sugarhouse for a demonstration on how this “liquid gold” is made. $12, $7 children; reservations strongly suggested. • Spring Valley Rd., Ossining. 914-762-2912, ext. 110 or http://teatown.org
