Into the wild

July 23: Dazzling Dragonflies Did you know that the largest dragonfly, found in Costa Rica, had a wingspan of seven-and-a-half inches? Although you probably won’t find these behemoth beauties here in the Valley, you can still search for average-sized flyers in the fields of the Hudson Highland Nature Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center. During this educational event, you’ll learn all kinds of fun facts about these winged jewels before combing the area to find them. 9 & 11 a.m. $7, $5 children. If slithery things are more your speed, you’ll enjoy the Snakes Alive program (July 30), during which guests can get up close and personal with these interesting creatures, and learn about their lives and habitats. 10 & 11:30 a.m. $5. Muser Dr., Cornwall. 845-534-5506, ext. 204 or www.hhnaturemuseum.org
